An exciting new era awaits Formula One amidst the massive regulation changes and potentially more complicated cars. Hence, there has been a load of predictions into the kind of drivers that can excel under such tricky conditions. Well, while a lot reckoned Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen could be the biggest gainers of the regulation changes, here’s why we think Fernando Alonso could supersede the 2021 title contenders.
The ‘El-Plan’ could finally work for Alpine and their prodigy, Alonso. The two-time world champion fought through a rather bitter-sweet debut stint with the French outfit last season. Following a slow start, the Spaniard eventually caught up with the rest of the pack and even secured a podium on merit in Qatar.

So, will the 2022 season be any better for Alonso? Well, highly likely. Only a couple of days earlier, Aston Martin’s Andrew Green acknowledged the crucial role that karting experience plays in handling the 2022 challengers. And, quite interestingly, one of the fewest drivers who have had their hands on Go-Karts in recent months is Alonso.

But, that’s not it! There are more such reasons why Alonso’s ‘El-Plan’ could work.

Fernando Alonso – the driver to watch out for?
Quite recently, Sebastian Vettel admitted that handling the 2022 cars can be extremely tricky, hence, much easier for the drivers to lose control of the cars. And, this is where Alonso stands out as one of the best. Irrespective of how complicated the car is, Alonso is undeniably capable of pushing it to the absolute limit. This was evident through his horror second stint with McLaren.

The Spaniard also has the additional experience of racing with the 18-inch tires back in the World Endurance Championship and Le Mans. A lot of drivers have struggled with the new Pirelli-made tires, but, Alonso might not be one of them in 2022.

Adaptability is another factor that Alonso stands out in; The Renault world champion will be a part of what is the fifth major rule change in F1. Hence, there is a significant chance that Alonso can adapt to the 2022 cars much quicker than the rest of the grid.

And finally, one of the likely specialties of the 2022 F1 cars is their ability to overtake effortlessly. Well, Alonso is the master of overtaking, isn’t he? So, too many positives landing on the side of Alonso, who is looking to revive his true form in F1. Hence, are we set to witness the Spaniard’s most successful season yet?
