Williams CEO Jost Capito believes the British team will be “the team where drivers want to go to” in the 2022 season. The team has been struggling for several years now. The Grove-based outfit has finished last in the past two seasons.

Capito, on Friday, stated Williams has time to finalize their driver line-up for the 2022 season. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has mentioned that he may not make a decision on George’s future until winter. It looks highly likely that their star driver George Russell will move to Mercedes for the 2022 season. Jost Capito is confident if Russell moves to Mercedes, the vacant seat will be attractive to many other drivers on the grid.

F1 is introducing new regulations next season which would bunch the grid. It would provide a massive opportunity for a team like Williams to get back into the mix with the midfield and the frontrunners.

Williams have been the slowest team on the grid since the 2018 season. They have not scored a point since Germany 2019. These are worrying stats for a historic team such as them. But Capito is confident that the British team would close the gap in the 2022 season.

He stated that the investments from the new owners would prove essential in their resurgence to the top. It would be interesting to see what the future holds for Williams under Jost Capito.
