Williams F1 Name Former McLaren COO as Acting Team Principal After Claire Williams’ Exit

One of the oldest members of the Formula 1 world, Williams Racing is going through a complete change. Earlier this year the British team announced that they’re looking for potential investors for the team. New York-based investment firm, Dorilton Capitals showed immense interest in the project. After thorough negotiation, Dorilton Capitals bought the age-old racing team.
Following the takeover, the Williams family announced that they’ll step down from their duties after the Italian Grand Prix. Sir Frank Williams and Claire Williams lifted their feet off the pedal and stepped out of the cockpit after the race in Monza.

However, Dorilton Capital need some time to settle down. Claire Williams served as the Deputy Team Principal. However, after her resignation, the position became vacant. Simon Roberts who joined the team as Managing Director of F1 is appointed as the Acting Team Principal.
Elated with the new position of responsibility, Simon released a statement regarding his appointment. With the team going through a drastic change, it’ll be exciting to see how he takes up the challenge.
“I am delighted to be announced as Acting Team Principal for Williams during this transitional period. It is an exciting time ahead for the team, a new era for Williams, and one that I am excited to be playing a part in. I look forward to the challenge ahead as we look to take the team back to the front of the grid”, he stated.

Simon Roberts joined McLaren as a General Manager in the year 2003. He went on to become the Chief Operating Officer of McLaren the following year. Roberts was appointed the COO of Force India in 2009, after which he rejoined his old team, McLaren.
Williams looking towards a bright future
Rampaging the tracks in the ’80s and ’90s Williams faded out with the dawn of the 21st century. From World Title contenders, they dropped down to be the mid-table players. Sinking with debts and without a ray of success, it was decided to get hold of some investors on board.

The association of Dorilton Capital is indeed a positive side for the British racing team. The financial thrust will ensure the British team to compete in the races with greater impacts. Hopefully, they got hold of the luck they were devoid of for so many years. Formula 1 fans across the world will be anticipating its return with the new owners. Although Dorilton Capitals are acquiring the team, it will continue racing under the Williams name keeping the legacy intact.
