Williams, the behemoth that it is in F1 history, hasn’t lived up to its name, both in racing terms and monetary terms. So now, in an attempt to fix its budget issues, it is toiling hard. The Wantage-based team recently brought along one of the sponsors from McLaren in a show of strength: Gulf Oil.

The deal between the two parties isn’t said to be huge in numbers, reported by sources to be only $4 million, but would still mean that the oil company would be looking towards making a one-off special livery to run on one of the weekends this season. It had something of a similar nature to McLaren in 2021 and would be looking to improve brand visibility with Williams.

The sponsorship between the two is a multi-year deal, relieving some of Williams’ budget woes. They have taken the first step in the partnership. The brand interviewed the three drivers of the team, Alex Albon, Logan Sargeant, and Jamie Chadwick. The American rookie, whose presence played a role in the deal, appeared in an interview for the corporation.

He said, “I would describe the new Gulf Williams partnership as historic, unstoppable and fast. I think having the chance to represent both Gulf and Williams is a really special opportunity. They both have a lot of history within racing and being able to carry that logo on my suit as well as on the car throughout the year and it just carries a really special energy.”

“Historic. Unstoppable. Fast.” These three words perfectly sum up the brand’s as well as Logan Sargeant’s entry into Williams, which has reinforced a new energy as James Vowles takes the helm this year.

Gulf has a rich history in motorsports. Its first signing goes back as far as 1936. Gulf, in the 1960s, entered the Le Mans. They supported McLaren’s endeavors from 1968 to 74 in F1 and IndyCar and also participated in other widely known competitions. Coming along with Williams is a partnership based on the legacies of two brands that complement each other well.

Williams’ sponsorships this season

Nicholas Latifi was called a paid driver for a reason. He and his father raked in plenty of sponsorships and effectively paid for the Canadian driver’s seat. However, after his exit, the team has had to search for more ways to generate revenue and has found it hiding in its academy driver, Logan Sargeant.

The American, along with himself, brought a big brand. He put Stephens on the list as the team’s “Official Investment Banking Partner,” as per Racing News 365. This perhaps indicates that Sargeant, much like Latifi, is paying for the seat.

There are other sponsors for this year, alongside Gulf and Duracell. These include Acronis, the Financial Times, Bremont and Umbro, Michelob ULTRA, and PureStream. Fulfillment of the deliverables will be crucial for the team to ensure an excellent reputation and better sponsorships. The team currently is scrambling around for the same.
