Williams F1 Still Going With Same Design as 2019 Despite Multiple Issues

Williams F1 has ruled against any “fundamental” idea changes with its new FW43 car, regardless of the troubles, it confronted last season.

The Grove-based outfit is confident that its new 2020 car, which was uncovered on Monday morning will assist it with ricocheting once more from a troublesome 2019 crusade where it completed toward the end in the constructors’ title and scored just one point at Hockenheim.

Although the FW42 left the group attached to the rear of the grid, Williams F1 design chief Doug McKiernan said that it picked not to make a totally unique vehicle this season and has organized making enhancements to territories of the vehicle where enormous execution steps can be found.

We have paid significant attention to understanding the problem areas of the FW42 and we have carefully chosen parts of the car to develop, those that would give us the most performance for the resources we have,” McKiernan explained.

The main concept behind the FW43 is that it is a continuous development of the FW42, with no fundamental concept changes to the layout. The most important indicator that we are on the right path will be the level of correlation we have between the tool kit we use to design the car and what the track data is telling us,” he said.

There has been a healthy development rate in the wind tunnel, and we have found reasonable improvements in cooling efficiency. We have made some good progress across these areas and will continue to focus on them during the season.”

The 2019 season was calamitous for Williams F1. The group missed the initial two days of winter testing since it didn’t complete its vehicle on schedule. The team was last in the manufacturers’ classification for the second year straight. It scored just one point in Germany because of punishments forced on the Alfa Romeo.

Williams F1 is keeping 22-year-old British driver George Russell, who made his introduction in the class a year ago. He will race with Canadian Nicholas Latifi, 24, advanced from Formula 2.
