Williams are yet to open their account for the 2020 season. However, with Dorilton Capital at the helm, the Grove-based outfit are in high spirits.

With the US-based company’s financial assistance, Williams’ acting Team Principal Simon Roberts is targeting a much improved season next year.

2021 will also see the cost cap rules coming in place. For the next year, F1 teams aren’t allowed to spend anything over $145 million on car development.

Although most teams would quite easily fall well below the mark, the Williams boss believes that the new investment could help the team to get as close to the limit as possible.

However, he clarifies that it doesn’t mean the team will be frivolous with the budget.

Roberts said, “Our budget is based on getting towards the cost cap. For next year we are looking at what we can do and we now have the finances behind us to do that. But it’s not a given. We will only spend money and invest where it makes sense.”

The Grove-based outfit have already shown encouraging signs of development and progress in a year. Under the new regime, the team could start gunning for points finishes sooner rather than later.

Williams F1 looking forward to 2022 regulations that will level the playing field

As with most teams, Williams too are looking forward to 2022 for the new aerodynamic regulations to come into action. This will supposedly ensure competitive racing between the teams and reduce the performance disparity that exists across the paddock.

Roberts praised the FIA for the efforts they are taking to ensure the sport becomes as competitive as possible. By the time the new regulations come to power, Roberts expects it to be foolproof and beneficial to most teams.

He said, “I think there has been a lot of work done and the guys that have created the regulations have been exploring that possibility of loopholes. So our expectation is that it should be a leveller playing field than we are used to today.”

However, 2022 is still a fair way away. For now, Williams will have their eyes trained on the remaining races. More importantly, the upcoming one at the Nurburgring.
