The world of Formula 1 is talking about one thing and one thing only: Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari. The Brit shocked the world with this mega announcement, ending his 13-year-long and most successful driver-team partnership with Mercedes. Not many saw this coming, with Hamilton extending his stay at Brackley for a further two years just last year. However, the Brit saw an opportunity and jumped ship to a team that he believes will help him achieve his goal of winning the eighth championship. However, what instilled this trust in Ferrari? What event led to this shocking outcome? Well, the fans on Twitter believe it was the Williams driver Alex Albon’s appendicitis back in 2022. Let us explain!

First, let us quickly tell you about this phenomenon called the Butterfly Effect. It is the compounding effect of small changes resulting in a massive outcome. Because of the small nature of the causality, it is almost impossible to predict the root cause or even the change. However, fans on X have identified Alex Albon’s appendicitis as the cause for Hamilton earning a massive $100-a-year salary at Ferrari.

Back in 2022, Albon was diagnosed with appendicitis after the Dutch GP and was set for surgery, ruling him out of the Italian GP. This gave the then-Mercedes reserve Nyck de Vries a golden ticket to replace him for the race. The Dutchman put in a mega effort and finished P9 in the race. Nyck de Vries became a hot property in the F1 market and was snatched up by then-AlphaTauri for the 2023 season.

We all know how De Vries failed at AlphaTauri and was replaced by Daniel Ricciardo. However, it was Ricciardo’s hand fracture that put things in motion. The Australian was replaced by Liam Lawson and the young New Zealander was the one who pushed Max Verstappen out of Q3 during the Singapore GP.

In the same race, Sainz secured pole position and went on to win the race ahead of the two Mercedes men.

The fans on X are highlighting if it wasn’t for Albon giving up his seat for one race to give De Vries a chance, we would’ve never come across this scenario. Hilariously enough, this has become a trending topic on the social media app and all the fans are accepting Albon’s role in Hamilton earning almost as much as Haas’ entire year’s budget.
