Williams Team Boss Reveals Claire Williams ‘Had a Really Tough Time’ Before F1 Exit

Frank Williams and Patrick Head founded Williams Racing in 1977 as a constructor. The team has since won nine constructors’ championships. However, the financial difficulties of the team in recent years have dropped the team to the bottom of the table.

Sir Frank Williams and his daughter Claire Williams have always wanted to keep the team within the family. However, they realized that to secure the team’s long-term future, they needed financial help and opted to hand over the ownership to Dorilton Capital.

It was a tough decision for the family to hand over the historic team. The team’s principal, Simon Roberts, acknowledged the difficult aftermath of such a decision and clarified that the team will always have a place for Claire.

“We accept that things have to move on, but there will always be a place here for Claire to pop back and see us,” he said.

And hopefully when we’re back in Europe sometime next year, she’ll be able to do that. But she’s had a really tough time.

“Keeping this together for as long as she has, and keeping spirits up as she has, is amazing. We really respect everything she did. But, we’re Williams still. And that’s really important to us,” Simons further added.

Williams team and family looking to enhance performance

The British racing team has been struggling at the bottom of the grid since 2018. The team has managed only eight points over the last three years and went point-less in 2020. The team is really desperate to change this fate.

Roberts further explained that the team is completely focused on improving their performance and environment.

“We’ve put together an investment plan that was focused at ‘what do we need to do, what can we do and what should we do to add performance to the team?'” he further added.

The new ownership is focused to seek improvements in every department. The team is using Mercedes‘ gearboxes and hydraulic components for 2022. To make things better, their driver, George Russell, has shown impressive potential this past season.
