Right now, McLaren is already ahead of the Silver Arrows by double the points and during this slump, Hamilton’s leaving makes things very difficult for Mercedes. Many are wondering if they will continue to be a competitive team after how badly they have fallen off.

That being said, Mercedes is also interested in acquiring Max Verstappen to fight and bring back the team to its former fame. However, Verstappen has made it clear that he will stay where he can get the fastest car, and currently, Mercedes is far from it. But then the question stands, who will be Lewis Hamilton’s replacement in 2025?

Toto Wolff is in a difficult position and finding a replacement for Lewis Hamilton will be no easy job. The team is currently not the hottest pick when it comes to which team to join and a lot of experienced drivers are looking the other way. Although Toto Wolff has his eyes on Max Verstappen, the chances of that happening are slim to none considering the team cannot put forward a competitive car.

Kimi Antonelli becomes a savior in this situation, as Toto Wolff explains, “It could mean that we put a young driver in the car and give him a chance. That creates less pressure than if we have to fight for victories straight away, or we choose a more experienced driver who can immediately help us with our performance.”

This strategy will help take the pressure off Mercedes, as having a team with young drivers is an attempt to move forward and the need to win races will go. But will this do justice to Mercedes fans? The car is currently a mess and Toto Wolff needs to redeem the team as soon as possible. Having such a downfall is painful to watch, to say the least, but how Toto Wolff deals with the situation is what will decide the fate of the team.
