Off the Pace Emma Raducanu Slots Into an Unwanted List Featuring Lewis Hamilton and Anthony Joshua

2022 wasn’t a great year for British Sports stars. While Lewis Hamilton struggled badly in F1 owing to Mercedes’ underwhelming car, boxing veteran Anthony Joshua also did not have a stellar year. But, the British prodigy in tennis, Emma Raducanu was also not able to perform at the highest level. Raducanu who recently became an MBE like her idol Hamilton was terribly off the pace at all Grand Slams in 2022.

Raducanu became the first Grand Slam winner coming from the qualifying stages at the 2021 US Open. At only 18 years old, she is one of the youngest Grand Slam winners in Tennis. Although, coming into 2022, these highs have been leveled out.

As per the Daily Mail, Emma lost out in the 2nd rounds at each of the first 3 Grand Slams of the year. Meanwhile, she even faltered at defending her US Open title in the first round itself.

Raducanu also suffered from several niggles and injuries throughout the year. The Briton has to retire from 4 matches in 2022 owing to not being physically fight due to these injuries. Though, the 20-year-old has stated how physical fitness will be key to staying longer in the sport.

So, 2023 should be the start of her redemption just like fellow British veteran stars on this unwanted list of struggling sportspersons like Lewis Hamilton and Anthony Joshua.

But unlike Raducanu, Hamilton and Joshua are at a different stage in their career. Both being experienced and champions of their sport; they have different paths and mindsets for overturning their struggles.

Can Lewis Hamilton and Anthony Joshua also look to bounce back in 2023 like Emma Raducanu?

Lewis Hamilton certainly experienced one of his worst F1 seasons in 2022. Not winning a race or getting a pole position for the first time in 16 years, the Mercedes man was frustrated. It was one of those years when Hamilton feared getting into the car with the fundamental issues of the Mercedes W13 car.

Similarly, Anthony Joshua has been on a downward spiral in his career. Joshua himself is aware of how he is at the twilight of his career. The veteran has lost his IBF, WBA, and WBO belts in the last two years.

Several experts have opined that Joshua needs a break from fights to reset his mind. A year off can help him greatly to regain his form. Yet, Joshua will be in some action in 2023. On both Hamilton and Joshua’s part, they need to reignite their spark and get into their zone of the highest level of performance.

We have often seen Lewis pull off some stunning performances, even in the worst circumstances. So it is possible that he can redeem himself to overturn the struggles that have kept him deprived of a win since Jeddah in 2021.

Regardless, all three British stars will have to step up their game in 2023. Emma Raducanu certainly would love to get off this list that includes struggling veterans Hamilton and Joshua.
