Lewis Hamilton was bestowed the honor of knighthood late last year. It was a fitting gesture given to the British athlete. Having won the F1 world Drivers’ Championship seven times, breaking a whole host of records along the way, fighting for important matters in the social sphere, there wasn’t anything more he could have done. So, it was fully deserved. However, the Mercedes superstar hasn’t yet come to grips with being called ‘Sir’ and believes that the knighthood doesn’t change too much for him.

Speaking to SkySports ahead of the upcoming F1 season, the Silver Arrows driver said that he doesn’t even know if he is ‘Sir’ yet.

He said, “It is definitely overwhelming, when you really think about it. But then you forget about it. I walk around and I don’t remember that I’m ‘Sir.’

Clearly, Hamilton seems very grounded, despite all the plaudits he has been getting over the years. And to an extent, that should help him keep his focus while chasing down an unprecedented eighth world title.

His former teammate Nico Rosberg certainly has faith in Hamilton’s focus not wavering.

“It’s not going to hurt his performance on the way to becoming the greatest of all time statistically, and beating Michael Schumacher for that eighth title. Lewis knows how to focus.”

Preseason testing hasn’t gone the way Lewis would have wanted to. He himself has admitted the upcoming season could be a really tough one. But then again, who would want to bet against a man who has seven titles to his name.

It is still early to say whether a title race is a possibility or not. But as far as Hamilton is concerned, he would only have an eighth-championship crown on his mind.
