Most drivers that make it to the premier class from the feeder series have one thing in common: hunger. Given, some have this hunger more than others, all drivers need to have this drive, to survive in the sport. This is the kind of drive that earned Max Verstappen his debut. However, Verstappen did not manage this aspect well in his initial years and often came across as too aggressive. However, a former driver, who Verstappen replaced in 2016 to get his Red Bull seat, defended Verstappen’s aggressive style and revealed its importance.

The driver we are talking about is Russian driver Daniil Kvyat. Kvyat and Verstappen are bonded by history and their life off the track. However, focusing on the sport for now, the Russian sat down for a chat on the Track Limits podcast. During the podcast, the Russian discussed various aspects of life in the circus and revealed some interesting stories. While answering one such question about F1, Kvyat revealed the need for aggression in the sport.

Kvyat answered Alex Albon when asked about his favorite teammate. The Russian also revealed a trait of Albon he liked the most. “I don’t know. Maybe Albon was the most easygoing guy. A very easygoing personality. He’s a strong driver for sure but easygoing personality,” said Albon’s Toro Rosso teammate.

However, Kvyat added, this easygoing nature would’ve changed by now. He added, “Maybe he’s a bit less easygoing now because maybe it was too much at the time. In F1 you have to be a bit c**ky.”

There you have it folks, Verstappen’s aggressiveness is not just a trait but a necessity to survive in the world of F1. A trait that Verstappen showcased plenty of during his initial years in the premier class. A trait his current girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend deems necessary.

However, getting back to this awkward history between the two, Christian Horner once suggested to Kvyat to have more kids with Kelly Piquet.

Kvyat was advised to have more kids while sharing the podium with Max Verstappen

Back in 2019, Kvyat became a father to a daughter named Penelope with Verstappen’s current girlfriend Kelly Piquet. Right after becoming a father, the Russian put his Toro Rosso (now Alpha Tauri) on the podium in the German GP. This shock podium resulted in a suggestion from an ecstatic Horner.

“Unbelievable – he [Daniil Kvyat] should have more kids! I’m so pleased for him. He’s kept his head down, he’s fought his way back into the [Red Bull] program… For him to become a father last night and be on the podium today – it was a very mature drive by him,” said Horner.

The funny aspect of this statement was Verstappen was the 2019 German GP, and Kvyat was sharing the podium with the Dutchman. Little did he know, Verstappen, who took his Red Bull seat was going to become a point of envy in his personal life as well.

Kvyat might not find this coincidence funny, especially now! However, such is the fast-moving life of F1. One second you’re on top, the next you vanish from the face of the Formula 1 world.
