With the start of the season delayed by 4 months, F1 drivers have been passing their time on the simulators. The idea of a virtual Grand Prix was initiated by F1 on the 20th of March. The most recent race was held in Baku, the day when the actual Grand Prix was going to be held in Azerbaijan. Williams driver, George Russell, won his third straight race in a row and now sits atop the leader board. The young Briton may be having a tough time out on the actual track thanks to the Williams car, but he has been bossing it on the simulator. He even took a page out of the book of Lewis Hamilton.

While leading the virtual Grand Prix in Baku, George Russell voiced his worry about wearing out his tires. Lando Norris, McLaren driver and a good friend of Russell, also has been a regular racer in the virtual Grand Prix’s. When asked about what he made of Russell’s complaints during the race, Lando said, “He’s been learning from Lewis!”

The British modern-day master has received copious amounts of praise for his tire management ability. However, it looks as though Russell isn’t impressed.

When Russell was asked the same question, he said, “I thought that’s what people do when they win! You’ve got to pretend the tires are going away and you look like a hero at the end!

Managing tires is an important part of racing. 6-time world champion Lewis Hamilton was heard complaining about his tires during last year’s Monaco Grand Prix. Lewis had started the race in pole position but had to encounter the problem of worn tires as the race wore on. With his tires wearing out, Lewis kept losing grip as the race progressed. However, he proceeded to demonstrate exactly why he is a world-class racer by driving flawlessly. Lewis managed his tires excellently for the remainder of the race and fought Max Verstappen to the finish line, emerging as a winner.
