6 time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has had many accidents throughout the course of his 12-year career. One of the scariest ones was in his rookie season where he missed out on the World title by just one point. A thread on Reddit posted a picture of 6 time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton from his debut season. Here we can see McLaren chassis crashing against the tire barriers.

Lewis Hamilton has a forgettable race weekend

Nürburgring hosted the European Grand Prix from 20 July-22 July, 2007. This race was one of the examples of how safety in Formula 1 has improved in leaps and bounds over the years.

Lewis Hamilton was the Championship leader. He had a twelve point lead over his team mate Fernando Alonso. Hamilton hit the barrier whilst on a flying lap in the final session of qualification. This crash happened at the Schumacher S bend. Hamilton’s car was going at 90-105 mph at the time of impact. McLaren team principal Ron Dennis attributed the crash to an improperly attached right front wheel. He clarified that it was a wheel gun failure.

Lewis Hamilton was helped from his car and stretchered off the circuit. But, he gave the audience a thumbs up indicating that he felt fine.

Hamilton was cleared to race the following day. However, he had a forgettable outing and finished 9th. During the race, he was lapped by his teammate and eventual winner Fernando Alonso. On the other hand, he managed to maintain a slender 2 point advantage Alonso in the Driver’s standings.

The 2020 Formula 1 Season

The Australian GP was canceled due to the spread of the Coronavirus. Subsequently, the Bahrain GP and Vietnam GP were called off. Formula 1 is set to return on May 3rd in the Netherlands. But, the race remains uncertain given the rapid spread of the Coronavirus in Europe.
