Lately, there has been an argument going around regarding the participation of trans-women athletes in sporting events, with the F1-backed W-Series being the latest to join the debate. Wondering what prompted this controversy? Well, it’s the recent decision of World Swimming to ban trans athletes from taking part in women’s events.

And ever since FINA broke this debatable news out to the public, several women athletes have been taking center stage to share their personal opinions. Among them is Williams F1 junior and the most prominent W-series racing driver, Jamie Chadwick.

The 24-year-old sided with her team owner’s comments over the ongoing debacle. Jenner Racing owner, Caitlyn Jenner, recently suggested that letting trans-women compete in the women’s category of events could gift them a substantial physical advantage.

Of course, one can acknowledge her suggestions considering that Jenner herself is a trans-woman and is a former Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete.

However, as far as W-Series is concerned, the founder and CEO, Catherine Bond Muir, made it pretty clear that she would not stand in the way of talented trans woman athletes wanting to join the series.

F1 hopeful Jamie Chadwick shares her own view of the controversy

The British racing driver chose to pick her team owner’s side in the never-ending controversy. In an interview with The Telegraph, she said, “Caitlyn is definitely much better placed to speak on this kind of thing than me or most of us.

“But I can see what she is saying. Caitlyn is someone who is trans but who developed musculoskeletally as a man. So she’s a lot taller and broader than she would have been if she was born as a female. Her main line, I think, is protecting women’s sport and I agree with that.”

“Obviously it’s a complex debate. I do believe that everyone should be able to compete in sport. Sport is escapism for a lot of people, and it shouldn’t be exclusive. There should be an opportunity for everyone. How that is managed is not my job, fortunately. I’m in a sport that is quite different in the sense that women and men are capable of competing against each other. So, in theory, it shouldn’t affect us,” she added.

Overall, regardless of Chadwick’s comments, it looks quite clear that W-Series will refrain from imposing a ban on trans-women athletes from entering the racing league. But what does the reality hold? Only time will tell.
