Ever since his skiing accident more than 5 years ago, Michael Schumacher’s health has been closely guarded secret.

Subsequently, he was placed into a medically induced coma for six months. Since then, he has undergone further treatment in Switzerland and at his home in Germany.

Health updates on the seven time Formula 1 world champion have been rare over the past four-and-a-half years. This is because his family is eager to maintain as much privacy as possible.

Now, Michael’s 21-year-old daughter Gina-Marie has given an interview to German broadcaster NDR.

Though the programme ‘Horse Adventures’ focuses on her western horse-back riding, she said: “I went go karting for a season with my dad, but I preferred the horses.”

Millions of Schumacher’s fans around the world will be itching for any update on the sporting legend’s condition.

Last month, two of Schumacher’s former F1 team mates spoke on the legend’s condition and caused a stir.

Rubens Barrichello told Brazilian television that Michael’s family refused to let him visit the German. Former Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer said: “I visit Schumacher more often.”

She said: “What can be said is that the family really appreciates the empathy of the fans.

“The people really do see and understand his health situation is not to be shared in the public eye.”
