The Mercedes twitter admin has done it again. Drawing inspiration from an exciting race on Sunday, the admin released a meme hailing Alonso as The Undertaker. This is regarding Alonso holding back Lewis for 11 laps, assisting Ocon to victory. They captioned the tweet: “THAT’S FERNANDO ALONSO’S MUSIC!!”- likening the driver to The Undertaker.

A defense master-class by Fernando Alonso

Having won his maiden victory at Hungary in 2003 with the same Enstone-based team; Alonso was proud to see his teammate be able to do the same 18 years later. While Esteban basked in the glory of his victory, he acknowledged it wouldn’t be possible without Alonso.

Hamilton would have had an easy time catching up to Ocon if the 11-lap battle wasn’t in his way. Hamilton eventually finished the race just 2.736s behind Ocon. The Frenchman thanked his teammate” I also want to say a special thanks to Fernando [who] has been fighting like a lion in that race because that probably contributed to give us a gap, give us a bit of a breather.”

Alpine’s sporting director credited Alonso as well, “100%, undoubtedly crucial… It was 11 laps, I believe, and if he’d got past him on the first lap like he got past Carlos [Sainz] on the first time, I’m sure Lewis would have been there.”

The Spaniard’s ability to read the race is incredible. He knew the battle was for points, not only for him but for his teammate and team. The veteran proudly accompanied Ocon on a victory lap after the race. Additionally, he hugged him and held up for the world to see. An emotional day at the Alpine garage, for sure.

Alonso’s plan surely came together as the victory was immense for the team. His feisty battles have become an F1 trademark; one that gets better with each race. Hopefully, this was only a taste of what is coming after the break, and maybe next time, it’s the legend himself on the podium.
