“Feels Like I’ve Been Away a Lot Longer”: Simona Halep Returns to Practice Ahead of Wimbledon Championships 2021

Sending some cheer to her fans, who had been fretting on her availability at the upcoming Wimbledon Championships, Simona Halep has announced her return to practice.
The two-time Grand Slam champion shared a video clip on Twitter, striking tennis balls leaping out of a machine on a practice court.
The 29-year-old Romanian had been out of action since suffering a muscle injury during a match against old rival and three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber at the Italian Open.

The match was called off and the German star progressed to the next round by virtue of a walkover.
The current World No.3 tagged the clip with a message saying though she has been out of action for three-and-a-half weeks, it feels like she’s away for longer as she sorely missed hitting tennis balls.

“My first hit after 3.5 weeks. It feels like I’ve been away a lot longer because I missed playing so much,” Halep wrote.
She added that the spell in the sidelines was the “best” as it made her realize that though she leads a good life, there’s always a longing inside of her to return to the sport.

“This period was the best because, even if I have a wonderful life, I could sense what I feel about tennis and how I feel when I can’t play it,” the 2019 Wimbledon champion wrote.
The clip shows the Romanian getting into shape for her trademark forehands with visible discomfort while she is at it.
Halep had announced her withdrawal from French Open due to injury
Days after her Rome withdrawal, Halep had announced that she would be missing out on the Roland-Garros this year as her injury would take longer to heal.

A proven clay court champion, Halep didn’t have a particularly fruitful time out on her favorite surface this year.
She reached the semi-final in Stuttgart before going down to eventual runner-up Aryna Sabalenka.
