The Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist in fencing, Race Imboden is a nine-time team Pan American champion while also being a two-time Olympic Bronze Medalist. Recently, the fencer got engaged to his girlfriend Ysaora Thibus after meeting her during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The couple announced their ceremony after Imboden proposed to her at their favorite Parisian Hotel.

Olympic medalist Race Imboden gets engaged

After winning a bronze medal in Tokyo, Imboden and Thibus decided to celebrate when he proposed to her in a hotel. The fencer spoke in excitement and recollected their time together.

“After the Games, we stayed at one of our favorite hotels in Paris, Le Pigalle. In the hotel, there was a record player, and I had made a vinyl for the proposal. I recorded an intro that ended with me popping the big question,” said Imboden.

“I didn’t expect it at all. I love the way he proposed because it was intimate and personal. It really felt like us. Marriage has never felt like a destination for me. I was in shock at first. I felt deeply loved not because of a ring, but because of the way I feel with him. This moment is a celebration of that feeling,” said Thibus.

Both of them love fencing!

The couple has been dating each other for five years and connected from the get-go. He commented earlier that this relationship ‘felt natural’. 

Likewise, Imboden spoke about both of them getting married and their passion for fencing. They added that their careers were important, and they respected each other for their views. A piece of joyful news for the couple who look perfect with each other.
