The mystery behind the Spaniard’s crash has filled the paddock with several rumours. While McLaren’s official statement said that sudden gusty winds knocked his car to the side, other sources speculate that Alonso was electrocuted and thus knocked unconscious way before the car hit the gravel, citing safety concerns of the Honda Power Unit. McLaren which is already in a grave situation right now, with a poor winter testing program, faces much tougher task ahead of them, as the man that they thought would resurrect them to any glory has to sit out of the car.
Kevin Magnussen, McLaren’s reserve driver will take Fernando’s place alongside Jenson Button. Whether Alonso returns in the second race in Malaysia or not, is still under consideration by his medical team.
