Pascal Wehrlein, was among the frontrunners for claiming the second Toro Rosso. What happened eventually no one knows, but he committed his future to Formula E. Now as it appears, he still has a chance in Formula One. That too for Ferrari.

Motorsport’s Italian branch claimed, that the former Mercedes junior could be hauled in by the Maranello squad along with Robert Kubica, who has also long been linked with a development deal at Ferrari- that is if he does not secure a race deal with Williams first.

However, Motorsport has derived the conclusion that Ferrari would not want to miss out on both- Kubica and Wehrlein. They think that Ferrari could move in to the close the deal with both the drivers. The German was initially linked with the spare seat at Toro Rosso, alongside Daniil Kvyat. However, he has signed a deal with Formula E team Mahindra and  would still be free for many races on the Formula one calendar, in order to conduct simulator tests from Maranello which is a role that was previously filled by Kvyat before his return to the Red Bull team.

According to the website- Motorsport, Ferrari have also shown interest in offering Pascal Wehrlein, a deal having acknowledged his intimate knowledge and expertise of the Mercedes W09 car; Ferrari will be hoping it will give them a competitive advantage in 2019, having lost out to the Silver Arrows this year.

Wehrlein has been in the Mercedes’ junior ranks since the year 2012 and has previously raced in Formula one for Manor as well as Sauber. However he has severed ties with the constructors’ champions in an inevitable step to attempt to move his career forward.

After failing to secure a drive for 2018, Wehrlein was quick to break off his ties with the Mercedes team in order to be eligible for options elsewhere. And considering the sad fate of Esteban Ocon, Wehrlein made a good decision only.
