FIA plans to increase the minimum weight limit of the one-seaters. The Barcelona pre-season test revealed many new areas to work on for every F1 team and one of the biggest factors was weight. Red Bull Racing is one of the teams which have the most trouble with this aspect. Therefore, the increment in the limit can be a blessing for the Austrian team.

The Formula One authorities revealed new rules and regulations for the F1 teams in 2022. One of those rules was that the F1 cars should be of minimum 795 kilograms. However, the Barcelona test revealed that only a few teams managed to keep their cars around the minimum weight limit.
So after receiving nine requests out of the ten F1 teams, according to reports, FIA has decided a three kilograms increment in the initial 795 KGs minimum weight limit. The weight limit was the major problem for the Milton Keynes-based team that they faced in Barcelona. It is rumored that the RB18 is currently running 10 Kgs over the minimum allowed weight. This can be a huge setback for Red Bull if other teams can keep their car close to the minimum limit and, as a result, have an edge over them in terms of performance.

FIA decided to increase three kilos because of the following factors. First, they are adding a kilo, as the new tires are heavier than the initial prototypes. The Second Kilo is for the wheels covers, which were not there in the initial plans. Finally, the last kilo increment is because of the floor issues which F1 teams faced in Barcelona. But further rumors suggest that some teams are expecting a bit more added to the weight limit, around 10-15 kilos.
Can Red Bull dominate in the 2022 season?
The Austrian F1 team was one of the main contenders to dominate the 2021 season and they did in the most parts. Red Bull even bagged one championship last year; as Max Verstappen lifted his maiden World Championship with Red Bull. However, the Austrian constructors failed to lift the Constructor’s title against Mercedes last season.

Red Bull Racing is currently working with its drivers for the upcoming season. They showed some phenomenal performance at the Barcelona pre-season testing with their latest RB18. However, they still fell short of their rival, Mercedes, who set the fastest as well as the second-fastest lap at Barcelona.
However, the Milton Keynes-based team is quite confident in their machinery and the driver line-up. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez showcased outstanding performance at the Barcelona testing with their third and sixth-place finish using their new challenger.
