Formula One Continues Their Pursuit of Miami as a Race Venue

Formula One is still hoping that a grand prix in Miami can see the light of day in the near future. Earlier this year, Liberty Media’s plans for a race in downtown Miami fizzled out. According to the Miami Herald the disruption in the city “would be too great”, so plans never got off the ground.
With that plan in the trash, Formula One is seeking an alternative Miami venue. Namely, the Hard Rock Stadium situated north of Miami in the Miami Gardens.
“We are thrilled to announce that Formula 1 and Hard Rock Stadium have reached an agreement in principle to host the first-ever Miami grand prix,” declared a proud Tom Garfinkel, CEO of the Hard Rock Stadium.

“We are deeply grateful to our fans, elected officials and the local tourism industry for their patience and support throughout this process. We look forward to bringing the greatest racing spectacle on the planet for the first time to one of the world’s most iconic and glamorous regions.”

However, not everything was smooth sailing from the start, like the first Miami project, there are still hurdles to work around. The Miami Herald further stated that district commissioner Barbara Jordan and Miami Gardens mayor Olivier Gilbert were opposed to the plan.
However, Sean Bratches, F1 commercial boss, is confident that they can achieve their goal. Reportedly, the circuit will receive funding by the Hard Rock Stadium owner Stephen Ross, and the race will be held mostly on stadium grounds.

“Hosting the race at the stadium site limits the work that has to be done to public streets, which means very little disruption to surrounding residents and businesses as we prepare for the race,” said Bratches.
