REUTERS – Chelsea are the “perfect” opponents for Stoke City to return to winning ways, manager Mark Hughes said after the Potters were beaten 2-0 by Watford in the Premier League on Saturday. Stoke welcome a struggling Chelsea side to the Britannia Stadium in the League Cup on Tuesday. The Britannia Stadium is widely acknowledged to be a fortress, but Hughes’ side have lost three of their five home league games this season with just one win. “The performance against Watford was not one I recognised to be perfectly honest,” Hughes was quoted as saying by the British media. “But the good thing is that we have a big game on Tuesday against Chelsea, and that is the perfect game for us. We can get back on track. We’ll be better on Tuesday,” the 51-year-old Welshman added. Hughes confirmed that captain Ryan Shawcross, who is yet to play this season, has recovered from a back injury after undergoing surgery in August. The former Manchester City manager said he was likely to make changes after the poor performance against Watford. “Ryan was in my thoughts for Tuesday anyway. But obviously, given some of the performances against Watford, maybe other players come into my thinking as well,” Hughes said. Champions Chelsea, who are the holders of the League Cup, also need to bounce back after Sunday’s damaging 2-1 defeat at the hands of West Ham United. They had a man sent off and the manager and his assistant were barred from the touchline during the match. The club face a mandatory fine from the Football Association for ending the match with six yellow cards, with Mourinho also likely to be sanctioned after no one from the club showed up for the post-match news conference. In 2016, Chelsea was ranked as the seventh most valuable football club in the world ?1.15 billion, by Forbes magazine. As of 2016, Chelsea are ranked eighth in the Deloitte Football Money League with annual commercial revenue of ?322.59 million.

Most recently, they won the UEFA Champions League under the leadership of manager Thomas Tuchel. They beat the Premier League champions Manchester City 1-0 in the final as Kai Havertz took the Blues to the promised land.

<h2><strong>Premier League 2021/22</strong></h2>
The 30<sup>th</sup> season of the top flight professional English football, Premier League 2021/22 will take place from August 13 2021 to May 17 2022. After a not-so-thrilling title race last season against Manchester United, Manchester City emerged victorious for the Premier League title. The 2021/22 edition of the tournament is set to bring an equal amount of excitement, with Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United all in the mix for the title.

<h2><strong>History</strong></h2>
Comprising of four divisions until 1991, the top division of English football split up and all the teams in the top division, after multiple discussions with the football authorities and television broadcasters, formed the Premier League in 1992.

The competition format remained the same, with three clubs relegated and three clubs promoted every season, and the top four clubs in the Premier League would qualify for the Champions League.

The main reason for the change in approach was to bring in more money into the game. The first broadcast rights for the Premier League was to be won at ?304?million over five years by Sky UK. The Premier League is the most-watched sports league in the world, broadcast in 212 territories to 643?million homes and a potential TV audience of 4.7?billion people.
