After swaying gamers and TV viewers with Season 1, the makers of The Last of Us are gearing up for yet another enthralling season. Based on the hit PlayStation franchise from Naughty Dog, HBO’s live-action series features Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as the iconic Joel and Ellie. While hardcore fans are looking forward to Season 2, the main showrunner has now revealed an actual update on the production schedule.

The show’s production was delayed due to the recent SAG-AFTRA strikes. But the show’s creators, Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, had assured fans that production would resume after the strike ended. Now, during a panel organized by a popular media outlet, Craig Mazin confirmed when production will finally begin.

Craig Mazin recently appeared in Variety’s A Night in the Writers Room panel. Apart from Mr. Mazin, it also included Charlotte Stoudt of ‘The Morning Show’, Sonja Warfield of ‘The Gilded Age’, and Nathan Fielder of ‘The Curse’. Deborah Cahn of ‘The Diplomat’, Fred Golan of ‘Silo’, and Michael Dinner ‘Justified: City Primeval’ were also present during this session.

When asked about the start date of HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2, Craig Mazin revealed that its shooting will begin on February 12, 2024.

This is big news for all the fans who were curious to know about the making of the next chapter. With the strikes having ended, all the major and big-budget TV shows can resume production without facing any obstacles. The aforementioned intel on the next season was reported by Variety.

What to expect from the second season of HBO’s blockbuster TV series?

That’s something the makers haven’t really shed the light on. But given the fact that 2020’s The Last of Us Part II will act as the source material, those who have played the game know the story. Even the creators previously confirmed season 2 will tell the story of the second game. What’s more exciting is that Craig Mazin had even stated that it will take more than one season to tell the story of the second game.

But again, there’s no certainty regarding how much inspiration Neil and Craig will take from game’s actual story. They may very well change a few sequences depending on what suits the TV show in the best possible way.

Meanwhile, actress Bella Ramsey who plays fan-favorite Ellie Williams in the live-action series recently expressed her excitement for Season 2. “I’m excited for the really intense stuff, because I did a bit of that in Season 1 obviously, but to do that. And actually more physical scenes because Ellie is obviously more physically fit in Season 2,” she said during a media interaction.
