“Dramatic, Dark, and Post-Apocalyptic” – Todd Howard Shares Insights on the Upcoming Fallout Show

If you ask any gamer about a well-knit, post-apocalyptic title, they will immediately point you toward Fallout. This franchise from Bethesda has won the hearts of gaming fans with its storyline and gameplay. The general masses will also experience the storyline soon as the Fallout TV show is expecting a 2024 release.
But many die-hard fans of this franchise may wonder what direction the TV show is moving toward. Will it stick to the original storyline or create a new one? To answer these burning questions, Todd Howard from Bethesda, who’s also an executive producer of the show shared some insights.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Howard shared he had a constant back-and-forth with show creators to keep the story of the show true to the source material. Howard is known for directing Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. With him now sharing his knowledge with the show creators, he said, “We had a lot of conversations over the style of humor, the level of violence, the style of violence.”

He continued, “Look, Fallout can be very dramatic, dark, and post-apocalyptic, but you need to weave in a little bit of a wink…. I think they threaded that needle really well on the TV show.” Furthermore, he also praised the way show creators Nolan and Joy portrayed Vault Boy in the show.
The character has become a mascot for the franchise, and the show will finally give a backstory to it. While hiding what the back story is, Howard praised Nolan and Joy saying, “That was something that they came up with that’s just really smart.”

The story of the Fallout show is canon to the franchise
While the origin of Vault Boy is something fans would witness for the first time, Howard has confirmed the show will be officially part of the Fallout lore. “We view what’s happening in the show as canon,” Howard said.

Howard went on to praise the show creators for their ideas, even wishing their ideas could have made their way into the game. With the game director of two Fallout titles praising the show, the expectations of fans with the upcoming show have increased. The show debuts exclusively on Amazon’s Prime Video on April 12, 2024.
