1) Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar Games are no doubt the masters of creating ever lasting video game experiences. Known for the famed GTA series and Red Dead Redemption, they have previously made games like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption, but their sequel is something else. It released in 2018, but remains one of the most popular titles even today. In a story that spans 40+ hours, there are numerous side missions which add to the content.

When one is done with those side quests, there’s hunting, fishing, and bounty hunting. And when players are brave enough to get through all the above-mentioned stuff, there’s multiplayer. Even aside from all this, the main story alone is of one of Rockstar Games’ most brilliant works, and an absolute tear jerker. All in all, there’s no shortage of things to do in this game. And players would just forget they spent $60 on it after they had spent hundreds of hours in this Western world.

2) Baldur’s Gate 3

Role-playing games are always pretty long. It’s no surprise that gamers spend hundreds of hours going through numerous missions in these games. Baldur’s Gate 3 takes this one step above. The 2023 GOTY winner puts players in a vast open world where they can choose to make friends or enemies. These choices do not stop here, though; players can also choose the way they want to approach several missions, and they can also choose how the game ends. Both of which add to the replay value.

Once done, they can restart the game and start doing it all again, but in a different way. For instance, players can see what happens if they throw a rock at their enemy instead of just having a conversation with them. Developer Larian Studios really made a game that is worth every penny a gamer would spend on it.

3) Elden Ring

For every Soulsborne fan, Elden Ring is a dream come true. Imagine a Dark Souls game set in a massive open-world game. A world inspired by the best of games out there, titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Witcher 3. The storytelling, gameplay, and combat, too, mostly remain the same. Players have to look very hard to understand the story and try very hard to defeat their enemies and advance in this game, but it’s all worth it at the end of the day.

Exploring the world FromSoftware created is a pleasure. There’s a secret in every corner. Players find something special at every stop, and those players would be rewarded for their curiosity. The best part is that even after spending hours and hours in this world, players would still not be able to find a lot of stuff. It’s just so crowded with content. More than a year after this game’s launch, players are still finding secrets in the Elden Ring. Further, players will be getting a DLC, Shadow of The Erdtree in 2024 February. The 2022 GOTY is worth its price.

4) God of War: Ragnarok

After God of War III, players thought it was time to bid farewell to the masterclass of a hack and slash series. Then Santa Monica Studio said ‘Hold my beer.’ In 2018, Sony Santa Monica gave the God of War franchise a new direction. They introduced fans to a brand new and improved Kratos. They introduced them to a brand-new world too, taking players into Norse mythology. That experiment proved to be a success, and that’s why a sequel followed. God of War: Ragnarok, followed up on the cliffhanger of its predecessor. Storywise, the sequel takes a very personal story and turns it into a Marvel-like Spectacle. Not to take away anything from the story, but the series has seen better. However, the gameplay more than makes up for it.

The developers make up for it by giving fans a game that plays incredibly well. It introduces a bunch of small new mechanics to the already fluid combat of God of War. The game gives players various shield options, a new weapon for Kratos and improved combat for Atreus as well. Besides that, the world is huge. Aside from bringing back realms seen in the previous games, players also get to explore realms that were previously unavailable. It’s so huge that once players are done with the main story, they unlock a whole new area. There are numerous side quests, a bunch of stories to follow and combat that no one can get bored with ever. And the icing on the cake? Santa Monica surprised literally everyone when they announced God of War: Ragnarok Valhalla, the game’s DLC, for free!

5) Hades

Roguelites are often credited for the amount of content they offer their buyers. Over that, they often end up being longer than any other game out there, thanks to them being very hard. Also, let’s not overlook the fact that their core gameplay loop is designed around players dying and starting the game from the very start. Hades is all that, but does it better than most.

Its music is mind-blowing, and its gameplay is beyond addictive. Once a player gets into it, it will be hard to put it down, and then they will realize they have spent way more time in it than they had expected to when they bought it. The money was very well spent.

?Stories hit way better when you are part of them!? Which is why I am a gamer first, writer second and a filmmaker as well. Being associated with movies has given me a very different perspective on gaming. Writing about video games has been on my mind for years and being an eSports writer at EssentiallySports gave me that chance.
