Bethesda Studios worked for almost eight years on Starfield. And for a while, fans did show this game all the love they could. After all, it has been one of the most anticipated games of all time. When it launched, it climbed to the top of the most-played list on Steam, and it even stayed there for a while. Starfield also received a lukewarm reception from critics, but eventually, the effect of the hype washed away and people started realizing that this was not the game they had been waiting for.

Today, Starfield sits at mixed reviews on Steam. And Bethesda’s 2011 game Skyrim is surpassing Starfield in player count. These things are an indication that with their next game, Elder Scrolls 6, they might need to go back to the drawing board. And give gamers the experience they are craving!

The answer to making a better Elder Scrolls 6 lies in Skyrim and Fallout 4.

Bethesda Games once had a reputation for making excellent open-world RPGs. Yes, those games often launched with a bunch of technical problems, but fans often overlooked them. And then Bethesda either fixed those issues themselves or let the modders handle them. This system just worked. It worked because the base was solid. Skyrim was a game where exploration was the key. Similar was the case with Fallout 4, but Starfield was a different game altogether.

While exploration was encouraged in Starfield, it was not as seamless as Bethesda’s previous offerings. This is why they should look at the likes of Skyrim and Fallout while developing their next adventure. They should make sure its map is full of oddities and mysterious locations, not complicated gameplay mechanics that act as hurdles for players.

They should increase random encounters, and they should make the game even grander. They should also make that outpost building a bit more worth spending time on. If a person is spending hours and hours building an outpost, it should feel like they are getting something more than just a bit of mineral from it.

Bethesda has a rich history of designing worlds that never get old, no matter how much time one spends in them. Skyrim and Fallout 4 are great examples of this design; people still play these games to this day and find new stuff. They should not make those worlds hard to explore; these things are what people look for in a Bethesda RPG. People look for immersion, not mechanics that break immersion. Here’s hoping Bethesda understands this and implements it when developing their next game.
