Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios is in Melbourne, competing at the season’s first Major. This is his first Grand Slam event since he was last seen at the Australian Open 2020. He suffered a wrist injury and later chose to skip certain events due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
As Nick began his journey at this year’s Australian Open, he was up against Portugal’s Ferreira Silva. The match began and the Portuguese player broke the Australian in his opening service game and took a 2-0 lead.
In the very next game, Kyrgios stepped up his play and put the pressure on his opponent.

The 25-year-old player broke Silva after he converted his eighth break point during that game, which lasted for seventeen minutes. Nick lost his cool and blasted a spectator in the crowd.
The Australian star was heard yelling, “Get your girlfriend out of my box”. However, he didn’t lose focus and ended up winning the opening set 6-4.

Prior to the Australian Open, Nick played in the ATP Murray River Open. After winning his initial two matches, he fell short to Croatia’s Borna Coric. During the event, the Australian player took medical timeouts for a problem he was facing on his knee.
In the previous season, Kyrgios reached the fourth round of the Australian Open. He lost to Spain’s Rafael Nadal. In the match prior to that, he played his longest match at the Open, which lasted for over four hours against Russia’s Karen Khachanov.

Nick’s best performance at the Australian Open was in 2015 when he reached the quarterfinal. Back then, he beat Italian player Andreas Seppi after saving a match point. He became the first Australian player to reach that stage after Lleyton Hewitt.
