2020 was an amazing year for Dominic Thiem. It saw him finally win his first Grand Slam title by beating Alexander Zverev in a thrilling five-setter at the US Open. It was certainly amazing for the Austrian especially since it was his fourth attempt at doing so.
Before the 2020 US Open, Thiem had reached 2 finals at the French Open and 1 final at the Australian Open. He sadly lost all of these matches and he started to wonder when he would win a Slam. In a recent interview, he said,
“These defeats gnawed at me badly, after Australia it was very, very bad…At some point you will run out of time.”

In addition to this record, Dominic also has a chance to go up in the rankings. He is currently behind Rafael Nadal and with a win in Melbourne, he could earn 750 points to replace him as the World No. 2.
Clearly, a lot of achievements lie in store for Thiem at the Australian Open. However, he is going to have to battle for it as there are numerous players who could challenge him for the title. Hopefully, he will be able to overcome them when the event begins on February 8th.
