After the exciting event at Quail Hollow that saw Scottie Scheffler lift the Wanamaker Trophy, the world no. 1 and his peers from the PGA Tour are at the Colonial Country Club. The 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge presents a different kind of challenge than the recently concluded major. Scheffler and everyone else on the field will be eager to add their name to the illustrious history book of champions who have won this tournament in the past.
Davis Riley joined the list of legends like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Phil Mickelson last year when he captured the title. Unfortunately, he will not become a multiple-time champion like Ben Hogan, as he has already missed the cut. However, last year’s runner-up, Scheffler, has qualified for the weekend as he aims to win the tournament for the first time, but with a T49 finish after 36 holes makes it difficult. While joining the lineup of legends is certainly an attractive prospect, the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge also presents a great purse. So let’s explore what every position on the leaderboard might earn in Pennsylvania this weekend.
Unlike 2024, when the tournament was played for $9.1 million, the prize money has increased to $9.5 million this year. That means the winner of the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge will get a bigger paycheck for lifting the title. Davis Riley picked up $1,638,000 for winning the event last year. This year, Ben Griffin, Matti Schmid, and 76 other golfers have a shot at banking a huge $1.71 million winner’s pay cut, according to MSN. Along with the prize money, the winner will receive 500 FedEx Cup points and a two-year PGA Tour exemption. Chance to play at the US Open at Oakmont.

New champion on the horizon at the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge
Ben Griffin and Matti Schmid sit at the top of the leaderboard with a considerable 2-stroke lead against the field. However, former champion Emiliano Grillo is also in contention, with only 5 strokes separating him from the pole position. While everyone is capable of winning the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge, it might be Rickie Fowler who presents the biggest challenge to everyone.

Eager to get back to winning ways, Fowler is also 5 strokes away from Schmid and Griffin. He ended an incredible round of 6-under par 64 to jump up 50 spots to the top end of the table. Speaking of that, the 36-year-old is also the strongest player on the field at the end of the leaderboard. Scottie Scheffler went 1-over to barely scrape through the cut. However, judging by his run, he might not be a realistic contender for the title, despite being the highest placed OWGR player on the course.
Who are you placing your bets on to win the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge, the $1.71 million paycheck, the classic car, and the Tartan jacket this Sunday?
