And it can be attributed to her inability to win preceding tournaments. A win in these tournaments can boost anyone’s confidence going into the major spectacles.
If truth be told, the Meijer LPGA Classic, which happens right before the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, has been a thorn in Maguire’s destiny, with two consecutive runner-up finishes derailing her title charge.
How did Leona Maguire finish second twice?
The first of the second-place finishes occurred in 2021 when Maguire outperformed her demons to card a 23-under-par 265. However, the talented Nelly Korda had other plans in that edition. Maguire finished solo second after falling short by two strokes and pocketed a cool $214,000 for her podium finish.

The story played out in a similar fashion the next year in a manner of speaking, where Maguire shot a final round 65 to get into a playoff with Jennifer Kupcho and Nelly Korda. But the Irish golfer faltered again as Kupcho took the plaudits this time.
