Back in April 2025, Garrick Higgo shot a 14-under-par 274 to win the Corales Puntacana Championship, the second title of his career. It had been four years since he received his PGA Tour card, and the time between his first and second win was also the same. The South African has been consistently pushing to find success on the Tour, as he has also had a third-place finish in the 2022
Sanderson Farms Championship. Despite his efforts, Higgo still couldn’t grab good sponsorship deals. He revealed the same during an interview after his win in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Higgo’s second PGA Tour win did get him an interview with famous golf analyst Dan Rapaport on Dan On Golf. During the conversation, Rapaport noticed that the 26-year-old was wearing a Boston hat. This prompted him to ask, “The Boston hat is out here to stay as well?”  That’s when the PGA Tour pro revealed, “Might as well, yeah. I don’t have any sponsors, so this one is good in the wind,” confirming that he doesn’t have an apparel sponsor yet. That’s what prompted the golf community to raise their voices and help Garrick Higgo get a sponsor. Latest reports reveal that their efforts have been successful!

Malbon Golf shared an Instagram post showing Jason Day sporting their gear at Quail Hollow. Beside him stood a grinning South African who was excited to have finally struck a deal. Yes, Higgo now has an apparel sponsorship deal with Malbon. And the timing couldn’t have been more perfect as he plays in the sixth major and third PGA Championship of his career.

While he may not have attracted sponsors quickly enough, his journey in golf has been quite intriguing. That includes his current association with Jason Day. But Garrick Higgo loved being linked with one legendary golfer who took the time to play with him when he was much younger.

Garrick Higgo’s early life inspiration

Garrick Higgo was only 21 when he first made his appearance in a major. In 2021, the South African won back-to-back tournaments in the DP World Tour to secure a place in the PGA Championship. That earned him a place in the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island for the 2021 PGA Championship. While Phil Mickelson secured a record-breaking win in the tournament to become the oldest player to win a major, a young Higgo also managed to make the cut and finish at T64 in the first major of his career.

However, it wasn’t Mickelson who inspired him to pursue a larger dream. When Higgo was only nine years old, he got the opportunity to play with someone many fans can only dream of. South African legend, Gary Player, was in his vacation home when he came across the young golfer on the course. The 9-time major winner played nine holes with a young Higgo who idolized him growing up. And the story didn’t end there, as Player often wrote letters to him and encouraged him to keep pushing for success.

Speaking about being mentored by the Black Knight, the 26-year-old said, “He always sent me letters when I was young, just encouraging me to keep going. Through all my wins, he has been there and has been a tremendous mentor to have.” 17 years later, Garric Higgo is now seen wearing all the all-black Malbon gear as he plays in another PGA Championship. With his confidence at an all-time high, it won’t be a surprise if the 2-time PGA Tour winner finishes in the top half of the table at Quail Hollow.
