Matsuyama’s quirky moment on the course

Matsuyama provided a comical interlude, one has to say. On the move with his group, he unexpectedly stopped and turned back, venturing into the nearby woods. Light moments aside, Matsuyama’s past performances in the US Open are worth looking at. With three top-10 finishes (fourth in 2022 and tied second in 2017), he is a major force to reckon with in this tournament. Additionally, since 2013 he has made the cut 10 times in his 11 starts in the tournament.

In terms of finishing in the top-10, Matsuyama may not have done well so far but looking at his past record, his campaign is far from over. There is still plenty of time left for him to change his fortunes.

Matsuyama’s performance at the ongoing US Open

The LACC is hosting its first-ever major and Matsuyama shot a disappointing 2-over 72 in the first round. However, in the second round, he improved his game and shot a 69. After a total score of one-over par across two days, he was tied 39th and successfully made the cut. Clearly, he has to do a lot over the next two days to find himself in a respectable position.
