While players like Bryson DeChambeau, Tiger Woods, and Rickie Fowler have specific moments they can share, Barbara’s response is much more endearing. She recounts a moment after Nicklaus stopped playing a snippet from their retired lives.
“Well, you know, Jack is a lot older than me. [Laughs.] But we stay busy, and we feel so blessed. We’ve been able to help children [with the Nicklaus Children’s Healthcare Foundation], and so many people share that passion,” she said.
According to Barbara, everything has been wonderful, especially as Nicklaus himself did not have much time to help as an active player on the tour. Of course, he was always supportive. “I recently heard him tell somebody, ‘Barbara supported me for 30 years and now I’m supporting her.’”.
Why does Nicklaus enjoy his retirement?
“We’ve enjoyed it. It’s been a blast”. Now, the 18-time major winner loves it, acknowledging that it is more important to him than a four-foot putt.
