Lewis stated that for the upcoming tournament, her team will comprise two to three rookies, but experienced ones; those who can bring out their best and would establish different mindsets in the team room.

In addition to this, when asked about Zhang, Lewis also said in that press conference, “I was watching her prior to — I was hoping she was going to turn pro this year and was watching her for the 2024 Solheim Cup because I figured by then she’d be a member of the Tour, she’d have a chance of making the team, and she kind of blew those plans out of the water and went ahead and won this year and took care of it for me.”

Thus, by shattering Lewis’ plans for the 2024 Solheim Cup, Zhang might make an early trip to Spain this year as an automatic qualifier in the 2023 Solheim Cup, and play under the guidance of Stacy Lewis.
