Three years later, Koepka kickstarted his American adventure with his first win, at the coveted WM Phoenix Open. He has won several titles since, including four major championships. But his crowning moment arrived after his victory at the 2018 CJ Cup, which lifted him to a World No. 1 rank.

Despite inconsistent form in the following years, Koepka occasionally managed to retain his position at the summit. He was last ranked at the top of the rankings in February 2020, before a nagging hip injury led to his downfall.

However, Koepka’s decision to join the lucrative LIV Golf Series for a reported contract worth $100 million ceased all hopes of a return to the top spot. Since June 2022, he has played in merely three OWGR-sanctioned events, namely the 150th Open Championship, the Saudi International, and the International Series Oman.

Koepka is currently ranked World No. 102, which is the first time in almost ten years that he has dropped out of the top 100. He fell out of the top 50 in December last year.

Will LIV Golf Series receive OWGR rankings?

The inability to provide ranking points to its golfers has become an impediment for the LIV Golf Series. The inception of the league was met with drama over its OWGR acceptance, a trail that has turned sour in recent months.

Initially, the rebel league declared its association with the Asian Tour in the hopes of gaining OWGR status. However, the cash-rich tour lacked many of the essential systems, such as a qualifying school for a regular stream of talent over the years.

It also faced animosity from sections of the PGA Tour, which further jeopardized its claims. LIV’s status for rankings is now looked upon by a committee that features the heads of the major championships – the Augusta National Golf Club, the R&A, the USGA, and the PGA of America.
