After watching their rivals from Team Europe play Jenga at Wentworth, the American Ryder Cup team decided to have some fun of their own. Just before the tee off for the 2025 Procore Championship, the Team U.S. squad played a round of “I’m passing the phone to…” any of their teammates, but through a quirky description of them.

An Instagram video posted by the PGA Tour, showcased a compilation of all members of the US Ryder Cup team, each passing the phone to the person they described. There were a few friendly jabs thrown between the Team U.S. members, which was great content of the fans as well.
Scottie Scheffler began the proceedings by saying that he’s “passing the phone to someone who hopefully won’t have a mullet for this Ryder Cup,” as the video moved to Sam Burns. For anyone who isn’t aware, Burns infamously got a mullet for the 2023 Ryder Cup with the USA shaved off on it.

However, most of the fans were only focused on one individual. And the funny thing is, he wasn’t even a part of the video shared by the PGA Tour.
If you haven’t guessed it by now, it was Bryson DeChambeau. The LIV Golf pro, who was not given an exemption to play in the 2025 Procore Championship, was sorely missed by the fans. Everyone in the comments section was asking about his whereabouts, as they were hoping he would at least be at Silverado Resort’s North Course supporting the squad. Especially since it was confirmed on the LIV Golf website that he will be on the course as he was planning to go “above & beyond” to support the team.

Dechambeau’s team building efforts in the last few months have not gone unnoticed. Even recently, he made an appearance in the locker room of Team USA in the Walker Cup, instilling motivation in the amatuers. Even Keegan Bradley is incredibly impressed with Bradley as he remarked, “He’s been incredible. He’s been more than willing to go above and beyond for this team. I think it’s a testament to what a good teammate Bryson is.”

So, by not involving the Mad Scientist for the video might not have been the best decisions of the PGA Tour. With comments piling up asking about DeChambeau, let’s see what everyone had to say about his absence from the video.
What’s your perspective on:
Is the PGA Tour's decision to exclude Bryson DeChambeau a missed chance for unity in golf?
Have an interesting take?
Scottie Scheffler & Co.’s efforts are ignored due to Bryson DeChambeau’s absence
The PGA Tour would have certainly expected to get heat for not giving Bryson DeChambeau an exemption. However, fans were left even more infuriated when they didn’t even allow him to feature in a Ryder Cup-themed video. One of them sarcastically said, “I’m passing the phone to someone who got an exemption to play this week to help build team morale … oh wait.”
Having the Crushers GC captain join the field at Napa Valley would have shown how the PGA of America prioritizes national pride over brand success. Moreover, with DeChambeau playing the PGA Tour alongside Scottie Scheffler & Keegan Bradley would have been the first step to starting a great collaborative relationship with LIV Golf. With Jay Monahan & Greg Norman not in charge of their respective leagues anymore, this could have been a great first step to a better future. However, they instead chose to stick with the rules and deny DeChambeau an exemption to the event.
Another chose to give a more straightforward response as they wrote, “Not allowing @brysondechambeau to be a part of these things is so lame and petty of the pga.” With Brian Rolapp sitting at the helm now, he would have left a very positive impression on the fans had he curated this move. Especially considering how popular Bryson DeChambeau is within the golf community. However, Rolapp did hint that he and the PGA Tour are focused on improving their product. They also suggested that they are not focused on building a better relationship with LIV Golf.
There were a couple of fans simply asking, “Where’s Bryson?” and “Where is king dechambeau.” In response to all of them, someone wrote, “To the folks asking where’s Bryson, it’s clear this was filmed at the Procore Championship (a PGA event). Xander isn’t here either but no one’s saying anything about that 😂.” While the “weakest link,” Xander Schauffele, is also missing from the field, no one is bothered about his whereabouts. Instead, all the community wants to know is where Bryson is. And as the user pointed out, this is a PGA Tour event. Bryson DeChambeau didn’t get an exemption to play in it.

Additionally, besides the Bryson comments there was also some banter regarding the other golfers. Fans commented that Patrick Cantlay wouldn’t have liked calling Scheffler “the best player in the world” before passing the phone back to him. J.J. Spaun’s hilarious description of Collin Morikawa as “someone who hits shorter than me” also got a few laughs.
So, while the video was unique and fun, fans were clearly upset that even for a small fun video the PGA Tour cannot make a simple exemption.
