6–2, 3–6, 6–1, 6–4, that is what Carlos Alcaraz needed to beat Jannik Sinner in the 2025 U.S. Open final. That also made the Spanish champion the world’s #1 tennis player. It has truly been a spectacular season for Alcaraz on the court. He has swung the racket with confidence and kept Sinner on the edge. Interestingly, the 22-year-old has also been equally impressive with the clubs. And if you don’t believe us, then Shane Lowry is here to vouch for him.

The Irish pro recently shared a picture of their meetup on Instagram. In the caption, Lowry wrote, “Always nice to meet and play with sporting greats. @carlitosalcarazz’s golf is definitely better than my tennis. 🍀🎾” The two were a part of the field in the 2025 Open de España Pro-Am event recently. Alcaraz teamed up with fellow Spaniard Jon Rahm as the duo dominated the course. Even Rahm was left impressed by the tennis superstar’s skills with the club.

The pro tennis player’s love for golf is no secret. He has always been an admirer of the sport. Even during the U.S. Open, he was seen pointing at Rory McIlroy in attendance and imitating a golf swing on the court. He repeated the same act the next day when Sergio Garcia attended the event to watch him play. Alcaraz’s eagerness to be a part of the sport suggested that he would have a swing at it soon enough. And he did so on the first opportunity he got as the DP World Tour traveled to his home country of Spain.

Carlos Alcaraz’s love for golf

“I used to go to hit some balls in the driving range when I was really, really young,” said Carlos Alcaraz during an interview. But he never really got into it as he was busy practicing tennis. However, all that changed when he finally started taking it a bit seriously half a decade ago. “I liked it, but since 2020, I just started to play more, to go on the course, to play some holes. I just fell in love with golf. I started to play more and more. I saw myself improving, so it engaged me even more to the golf, and it has me. I just feel really peaceful when I go out and play some golf on the golf course.”

As many golf enthusiasts know, the sport can be anything but peaceful at times. Even then, coming from a fast-paced action of tennis, it is understandable why Alcaraz would find the experience of golf a lot more calming. He also added, “My handicap right now is 14. It’s getting down, but it takes time. I mean, for me it’s a privilege to have time to play some golf, to be honest.” For someone who is so dedicated to mastering tennis, having a 14 handicap in golf is certainly impressive. And considering how often he hangs out with pros like Shane Lowry, Sergio Garcia, Jon Rahm, and Rory McIlroy, there is no question that Carlos Alcaraz’s skills will improve immensely over time. Considering his competitive nature, could we also see him turn pro over the years?
