Tiger Woods certainly seems to have passed on his grit to his son. Only a few days ago, Charlie Woods followed his father’s footsteps as he was added to the Rolex Junior All-America first team. Despite that, his recent performance didn’t reflect his best form of the season. The 16-year-old struggled during Benjamin School’s match in the District 13-1A Championship. Yet, they had done enough to carry him into the finals.

And now, Woods is eager to turn things around and lead the way for the Buccaneers.

He and his team are playing in the Class 1A State Championship at Howey-in-the-Hills’ Mission Inn + Resort. This won’t be the first time they will be competing in the finals of the event. In fact, Benjamin School has won the tournament on four separate occasions, with the last victory coming back in 2023. However, they didn’t have Charlie Woods in their roster back then.

Last season, the Buccaneers failed to impress from the opening round itself and weren’t able to recover after that. Woods had finished at T29 with a 7-over 151 in the event back then. Benjamin School finished second, 9 strokes off the top of the leaderboard. It was Oxbridge Academy that dominated the tournament, led by Joey Iaciofano’s excellent effort.

Coming back to the present, Woods will have a lot on the line after the performance he has delivered in 2025. He has been breaking through the junior golf scene this season, grabbing a huge win in the Team TaylorMade Invitational back in May. Charlie also came close to competing for the Boys’ Junior PGA Championship before succumbing to the last round pressure to drop to T9.

Speaking of finishing at ninth place, he is also currently ranked as the ninth-best golfer in the AJGA rankings.

With so much riding on his shoulders, Charlie Woods will certainly be extra-focused during the last round of the event in Florida this week. Having said that, let’s look at what he did in the first round of the event.

How has Charlie Woods played in the State Championship so far?

Played for two days, the Class 1A State Championship features some of the best junior golfers in the United States. And Charlie Woods didn’t shy away from performing in front of all of them in the first round of the event. The young protege managed to score a 74 after 18 holes to help The Benjamin School finish strong. The Buccaneers ended up second on the leaderboard, on par.

They are currently sitting just one stroke behind first-place Orlando First Academy. That won’t be a huge difference to cover for Woods & his team if they want to win their fifth State Championship in history. But for that to happen, Charlie Woods will need to lead the way and score under par. If he manages to go on a wild run of birdies like he did in front of his dad, Tiger Woods, in 2024. That should be enough to help The Benjamin School push through.
