How do they decide who will host the Ryder Cup?

One thing is certain: the venue of every edition of the Ryder Cup switches between the United States & Europe. So, since the 2025 Ryder Cup was played on Bethpage Black, in New York, the next one will be hosted across the Atlantic. In fact, Rory McIlroy & Shane Lowry will truly enjoy playing the next edition of the purest form of golf, as the event will be played on Adare Manor, in County Limerick, Ireland. It’s not exactly on the Grand Slam champion’s home soil, but it’s still close enough to home for him to receive a lot of support from the local fans.

Speaking of how the venue was picked, it’s important to understand that the tournament is administered by the PGA of America and Ryder Cup Europe. Both organizations take turns to pick venues for each edition of the tournament. In Europe, countries must formally express their interest in participating in the bidding process to determine who will host the event. In the United States, this role is fulfilled by different states across the country.

The battle to host one of the biggest golf events in history

Usually, there are multiple nations that bid for the Ryder Cup when it’s hosted in Europe. However, for the 2027 edition of the tournament, Ryder Cup Europe had approached Ireland to organize the event in 2019. The country confirmed that Adare Manor in County Limerick will be the venue to hold the 46th Ryder Cup as Europe tries to continue its domination on home soil.

Beyond that, the 47th edition of the tournament, which is to be played in 2029, will come back to the United States in Minnesota. It will be played at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska. Last time the tournament was held in the same venue was in 2016, and it saw the home team win 17-11. In 2031, Jon Rahm will welcome the Ryder Cup to his home country of Spain. It will be hosted by Camiral in Costa Brava, Barcelona. It will be the first time the tournament will be contested in Spain after 34 years.
