Did Scott O’Neil give him the orders? The action at TPC Craig Ranch had the fans hooked. Everyone was excited to finally see Scottie Scheffler return to form after a series of failures. The world No. 1 had a mammoth lead against the field that nearly guaranteed he would lift the title on Sunday. Midway through the round, everyone spotted something shocking flying in the sky. Was it a bird? No! Was it a plane? Nope! Sorry, no Superman involved here. However, there was one super-rich man thrown into the mix.
The person in question was Albert Huddleston, the owner of the Maridoe Golf Club near Dallas. Huddleston is an avid fan of LIV Golf and has been eager to host the PIF-funded promotion in his golf club. They did cater to Bryson DeChambeau & Co. for the Team Championship event back in September 2024. This year, the Maridoe Golf Club is scheduled to host the ninth tournament of the season. LIV Golf Dallas will be played from June 27-29, 2025. It will occur at the same time as the Rocket Classic over a 1000 miles away. And Huddleston and LIV Golf seem to have pushed out their best advertising efforts at the cost of causing disruptions at TPC Craig Ranch.
Josh Carpenter tweeted the update with a picture of Albert Huddleston’s LIV Golf advertisement. The caption read, “Albert Huddleston, the owner of Maridoe Golf Club near Dallas, is having this plane fly over the Nelson this afternoon. ‘Enjoy the Nelson & LIV Golf @ Maridoe June 17-29.'” Unfortunately, their risky and probably super expensive marketing gimmick didn’t sit well with the golf community.

LIV Golf’s absurd strategy leaves fans infuriated
The astonishing marketing gimmick must have come at a cost for Albert Huddleston and LIV Golf. But if the average viewership suggests anything, the returns won’t be as lucrative. As one fan pointed out, “And somehow, with the advertisement they’re still only pull 80,000 viewers in America.” The Saudi-based league has always had its fair share of troubles with viewership. Despite the millions spent on every event, they are not able to get any numbers. Huddleston may regret investing in LIV Golf just as Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers did after the shocking TV ratings for LIV Golf Mexico City were revealed. Another fan also held the same views as they mentioned, “In keeping with the LIV mantra ‘let’s waste some more money’.” They believe that such outrageous attempts only lead to undue expenses.
There was a general opinion that Scott O’Neil and his associates were just getting desperate for attention at this point. One of the comments read, “Desperate please watch us.” while another follower posted, “man liv is desperate lol pathetic.” They seem to be convinced that LIV Golf will try anything at this point to crack the code for getting higher TV ratings.

What’s your perspective on:
Is LIV Golf's sky-high marketing just a desperate cry for attention or a stroke of genius?
Have an interesting take?
While most PGA Tour fans might not be aware of the LIV Golf schedule, this promotion by Huddleston did bring the dates for LIV Golf Dallas to everyone’s attention. That prompted someone to comment, “LIV guys will love having to play the week before AND after the US Open.“ LIV Golf will be in Washington D.C., a few days before the 2025 U.S. Open tees off. If that wasn’t hectic enough for the defending champion, Bryson DeChambeau, then he and his peers will play again in LIV Golf Dallas a little over a week after their visit to Oakmont Country Club. Talk about giving your players the best shot at winning a major.
