Indeed, the top three on the present LIV Golf leaderboard all belong to a common university and have begun their careers on the same courses. But what does the future hold for them, especially for Talor Gooch, who is having a hard time with the recent USGA qualification amendment?

Oklahoma State University sits atop LIV Golf’s leaderboard
While a large part of the season is yet to commence, the standings of the LIV Golf Series are starting to take shape. The statement holds true for both the team and individual rankings, where the latter has taken shape in a unique manner.
As it stands at the conclusion of the LIV Singapore event, three former Oklahoma State University alums stand on top of the individual leaderboard. Those golfers are RangeGoats’ Talor Gooch, 4 Aces’ Peter Uihlein, and Crushers’ Charles Howell III.

However, despite his history-making triumphs in recent LIV events, the 31-year-old has been on the receiving end of a harsh USGA ruling.

Talor Gooch’s US Open woes find no end
Still young in his promising golf career, Gooch was among the brightest talents on the PGA Tour. Yet he almost immediately jumped ship to the newly formed LIV Golf Series last year, which turned him into a mocking stock for much of the golf community.
But after a successful initial season with the 4 Aces, Gooch has taken his performance up a notch. Having won at the preceding LIV Adelaide event, his Singapore victory was the first-ever instance of back-to-back wins in the league, which rocketed him to the top of the individual leaderboard.
Despite the lack of much-needed ranking points, Gooch was able to qualify for the season’s US Open thanks to his qualification at the Tour Championship last year. However, the governing body of the competition, the USGA, has altered the qualification ruling, which guarantees spots for those who had both, “qualified and were eligible.”

It means Gooch will have to commit to the original ranking system to claim a spot in the US Open. But with LIV Golf yet to be credited with world ranking points, do you think the 31-year-old will be helpless by the time the major championship rolls in?
