LIV Golf has suffered $1.4 billion worth of losses in the last four seasons, and possibly a few hundred million more. Even after landing a Fox Sports deal, bringing in stars like Jon Rahm & Bryson DeChambeau, and still getting around 400,000 viewers, the league hasn’t quite reached the level of success the PIF envisioned. Those numbers explain why the losses have been so steep. Still, recent reports suggest LIV has doubled down, reinvesting in Dustin Johnson.

As per Flushing It, “Multiple sources confirm that Dustin Johnson has signed a new contract with LIV Golf. The details of the deal are unknown at this stage, but the 2022 Individual Championship winner was in New York recently to meet with officials and will be returning as captain of 4 Aces GC in 2026. There’s been lots of speculation about star names leaving the league, but we understand that most players up for renewal this year have already agreed terms and will be teeing it up next season, with all players not released or relegated also expected to do so.”

The two-time major winner’s LIV Golf contract was due at the end of 2025. There were rumors that he, like many other stars, was planning to leave LIV Golf. With no OWGR and a guarantee for every major, Johnson had a lot to lose by staying in the Saudi-based promotion. However, it seems that he may have already signed a new contract. While the reports haven’t revealed the terms of his deal, it does state that he will lead 4Aces GC in the 2026 season of LIV Golf.

This comes as a surprise for many, as the PIF had already revealed losing $1.4 billion in four seasons. With their ambition to sign new players to the league, and them looking at two recent PGA Tour champions, one would have thought they would let go of a 41-year-old out-of-form Dustin Johnson. But for them to retain him shows how much confidence they have in his experience and ability to make a comeback.

While the reports may not have revealed the exact value of the new contract, there are a few key terms that Dustin Johnson must have signed, based on the commitments made by LIV Golf. Let’s understand what they are.

Dustin Johnson’s LIV Golf plans for 2026

The old terms in Dustin Johnson’s LIV Golf contract were simple. All he had to do was play 13 events a season and earn over $100 million. That’s exactly what he did, on a regular basis. In fact, in his very first season, Johnson and his side were the best performers in LIV Golf. They dominated the league, and the 41-year-old won the 2022 Individual Championship. However, in 2026, the terms of his new contract will require more commitment.

As Flushing It revealed a few days ago, all players who will be signing new contracts from next season on will have to adhere to new terms. Apart from the 13 LIV Golf events, the players will also need to participate in 2 International Series tournaments every season. That means Johnson will be booked for at least 15 tournaments associated with LIV Golf in 2026 and beyond. Add to that his appearances in the DP World Tour, and he might as well call it a full PGA Tour schedule.
