We have officially entered the final stage of the PGA Tour Champions 2025 season. It’s the first event of the Charles Schwab Playoffs, and the field is packed with the best senior golfers in the world. Fans would be excited to see Miguel Angel Jiménez try to dominate another big event after he has pretty much dominated the Tour in 2025. But last year’s winner, Tim O’Neal, won’t make it easy for him as he tries to retain the title as well.

What will the winner of the 2025 Dominion Energy Charity Classic earn?

Being the first Charles Schwab Cup playoff event, the 2025 Dominion Energy Charity Classic will only host the top golfers on the Seniors Tour. That means the field size is smaller than normal and will only include 72 of the best PGA Tour Champions players. This guarantees two things: first, everyone will play all four rounds of the event, and second, everyone will win a share of the total purse. Speaking of which, the purse for the tournament played at The Country Club of Virginia is $2.3 million, according to the tournament’s official website. This will be the same as last year as well.

That does mean that the prize money distribution for each position will also be the same. The winner of the tournament will take home a handsome $350,000 paycheck. Everyone in the top 5 should also earn more than $100,000, if there aren’t too many ties. Even those who finish dead last will earn at least $1,748. Let’s look at the complete breakdown of the purse below:

Having said that, it’s not just the prize money that the seniors will be playing for over the weekend. Let’s look at what else is at stake in the 2025 Dominion Energy Charity Classic.

High-stakes playoffs at Richmond, Virginia

Winning a $350,000 paycheck would certainly be a great bonus for anyone on the field at The Country Club of Virginia. However, for some of the players, they will have more to lose if they don’t risk it all to try and finish as close as possible to winning the maximum prize money. And that’s because the tournament is a Charles Schwab Cup Playoff event.

Apart from winning the title and the big paycheck, some of the players would also be aiming to make the field for the Simmons Bank Championship next week. To achieve that goal, they will need to finish within the top 54 of the Schwab Cup points table.

At present, 18 players are sitting outside the rankings. And the list includes some big names like Fred Couples, Chris DiMarco, and Mike Weir. It will be interesting to see how far ahead they can make it in their pursuit to make it to the second playoff event of the season.
