When every American pro, including nearly the entire Team U.S. Ryder Cup team, was playing in the Procore Championship, Michael Kim decided to take another route. He opted to take a trip to the United Kingdom instead to participate in the BMW PGA Championship. Playing alongside Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy, he preferred to take on the European Tour event rather than the one on his home soil. But what made him make that choice? In a recent interview, Kim revealed why he has been traveling the world with the DP World Tour.

Playing the DP World India Championship, Kim finished another excellent round of golf. He’s currently sitting at T10, 6 strokes off the top of the leaderboard. After the round, in an EssentiallySports exclusive interview, he was asked about his reasons for playing DP World Tour events more often than the PGA Tour events these days. Kim said, “I enjoy traveling a lot. I love going to international and new places and playing in places that I’ve never been to. I’ve never been to India before.”
He wasn’t lying when he said that he hadn’t been to India. In fact, due to visa processing delays, Kim ended up landing in Delhi only hours before tee off. He also ended up tweeting, “Anyone know what golf course I’m playing tomorrow? 😂 Trying to look at some pictures,” a day before the tournament, as he was on his way to the country from Japan. He had just come from some exciting action in the Baycurrent Classic at the Yokohama Country Club. Getting back to his statement, Kim shared more reasons why he was sticking to the DP World Tour schedule this year.

“I heard great things about this tournament. I was excited to sign up. After winning in France, it made more sense to play more events on the DP World Tour. It’s been an awesome experience so far.” After his bout in the BMW PGA Championship, Kim played the FedEx Open de France a week later. In a hard-fought contest, he beat Brooks Koepka & more to win his first-ever DP World Tour title. That landed him at 37th on the Race to Dubai rankings and gave him a shot at earning some money on the European Tour. Since he couldn’t get past the BMW Championship on the PGA Tour, it is understandable why he is pursuing a goal that might help his career progress even further.

Having said that, how has Michael Kim performed after barely making it to the Delhi Golf Club to play in the DP World India Championship? Let’s take a look at the numbers to find out.
How is Michael Kim adjusting last minute?
As confirmed, Michael Kim barely made it to India to participate in the 2025 DP World India Championship. A day before the tournament, he was still looking for pictures of the course to see what it looked like. When he did finally make it, some thought he would struggle to play on the unfamiliar fairways. However, Kim managed to surprise everyone with his excellent performance.
He enjoyed two rounds of 4-under 68 before the weekend began. Kim barely made any mistakes, managing to score only 3 bogeys in the first 36 holes. On Saturday, he added another bogey and four birdies to finish 3-under 69 for the day. Overall, his score was 11-under and he is 6 strokes away from Keita Nakajima. Another solid round will help Michael Kim finish strong in the tournament. Perhaps, he could also end up competing for the title. But that would depend on others’ mistakes. However, it’s safe to say that he has had another great outing in the DP World Tour. No wonder he has chosen to skip the PGA Tour events and stick to the European schedule.
