Scottie Scheffler‘s win at the 2025 CJ Cup Byron Nelson was a special one. The world No. 1 had been struggling to convert great performances into a win all through the season. He had five top-10 finishes in 2025. He had Rory McIlroy grabbing wins in three of his eight appearances this year. To finally get his hands on a trophy at TPC Craig Ranch was special for him. Especially with his wife, Meredith, and son, Bennett, watching him make the final putt on his home course. But it wasn’t only a win for the Scheffler family. Mr. Inevitable had millions of fans supporting him throughout the year.

They had been closely following his every move. They were by his side even when he faced criticism for going through a fit of rage during the 2025 WM Phoenix Open. One of them was a star CBS reporter, Amanda Balionis. In fact, Scheffler felt safe in confiding in Balionis after his return to the PGA Tour in 2025 was delayed due to an injury. Now that the drama slayer has captured his first win of the season, the golf analyst was one of the first individuals to dedicate a post on her Instagram to his win.

Sharing glimpses of her interview with Scheffler at TPC Craig Ranch, the post was captioned, This one was special. An absolute clinic from @scottie.scheffler all week resulted in World Number 1 claiming his 14th title, the first of 2025… and most meaningfully making good in front of the community that raised him, and the tournament that gave him his first start on the PGA TOUR. There’s no mistaking what this one means, and also the form Scheffler is in leading into the 2nd major of the year 👀.” Scheffler’s first PGA Tour appearance was in the 2014 edition of this event, when it was known as the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Back then, the tournament was played in Irving, Texas, which was still his home course. Scheffler managed a 4-under par 276 to finish at T22 back then. Today, with his first win of 2025 coming at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, the world no. 1 finally found form just days before his visit to Quail Hollow. Surprisingly, he has decided to skip the 2025 Truist Championship next week. Although Scheffler had mentioned at the close of last season that he would try to give himself a break to prepare for the majors last year. So it shouldn’t be that big of a surprise that he will not be taking the field for the Signature event next week.

Coming back to the interview, Scheffler was quite emotional about the win. Holding back his tears, he said, “It feels like a lifetime of hard work and sacrifice for little moments like these, and they are pretty special. My family was all able to be here, and it was just really, really special memories, and I think at times it all comes crashing down to me at once. We have a lot of great memories as kids coming to watch this tournament. I just dreamed to be able to play in it, and it’s more of a dream to be able to win it.” From making his PGA Tour debut in the event 11 years ago to finally winning it today, it has truly been a long journey for Scheffler. There is nothing more special he could wish for than to be able to finally win it with his family by his side.
