Not too long ago, the PGA Tour and its officials stood strongly against LIV Golf. Among the many things they criticized, one took the forefront—the Saudi League’s untraditional format of 54 holes and no-cut events. For the Tour, which sees a cut made at 36 holes at most of its events, no eliminations during its rounds were unprecedented!

However, as per recent reports, it seems like they’ve taken a U-turn in this thinking of theirs. Even long before the $3 billion merger, there had been some buzz around the Tour which introduced events with a format similar to that of LIV. Now, the air around that has been cleared! And it seems like this latest update hasn’t sat well with the fans, as they take to chats about “hypocrisy” for the new announcement.

In 2022, during the inaugural season of LIV Golf, PGA Tour officials called out the integrity of golfers who opted to play in no-cut events for money. Jay Monahan, the Tour Chief, also spoke about how such players are missing out on the legacy of the PGA Tour and the competitive spirit of the sport. As time went by, PGAT Officials got a little soft with the former rival league and entered into an alliance with it.

A few weeks before the LIV-PGAT alliance, the Tour Commissioner announced that they were planning to introduce a revamped schedule of the PGA Tour for the 2024 season, where there will be no-cut signature events and even the field size of such events will be 70–78 golfers.

Now, as per a report by Golfweekly that has quickly garnered attention, out of the 12 designated events, only four will have a 36-hole cut, and the remaining eight will be no-cut events. The four events with cuts are believed to be the Players Championship, the Genesis Invitational, the Memorial Tournament, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Calling out the PGA Tour for their astounding hypocrisy, Flushing It, a popular golf page on Twitter, posted a tweet where they discussed the matter. The post quickly went viral and garnered a lot of attention in the golf world. Fans, of course, had a lot of strong opinions about the matter, and taking to the comments on the post, they didn’t hold back.
