They say the first win is always the hardest. It can be, but that was not the case for Justin Thomas when he triumphed in the 2025 RBC Heritage for the first time in nearly 3 years. It took 1064 days for Thomas to win on the PGA Tour again. Every minute of them was torturous for him. He may have simply said that he “missed winning”, but deep down, Thomas would have been going through hell. Just like any of his thousands and millions of fans, he is a popular player that he is. After all, they all saw him finish in the top 10 sixteen times since then. And now that the 16x PGA Tour winner has finally grabbed his first win in ages, he is hungry for more.
In an interview after the third round of the 2025 Truist Championship, Thomas was asked, “Does contending feel any different post-win, kind of having gotten the first win since 2022?”
The top-10 finish, eating Philly cheesesteak, a Floridian who celebrated his birthday just two weeks ago, said, “It’s probably not fair — or I probably can’t honestly answer today, maybe tomorrow. It didn’t today. It’s probably more of a comfort level where my game’s at and the head space I’m in, but yeah, I might be able to answer it better come tomorrow.”
You would think Justin Thomas would be more confident after finally breaking the shackles. But one thing that the past three years have taught him, it’s not over until it’s over. The Jupiter local sits tied at third, three strokes away from the top of the table. He is definitely challenging for another Signature event. The only question is, can he get two wins in a row? As Thomas stated himself, he will need another day before he can answer that.

Justin Thomas’ journey till the last 18
Three rounds down, Justin Thomas is certainly one of the top performers in the 2025 Truist Championship. He finished the first round three strokes behind the top of the leaderboard. He had managed a 4-under par 66 after 18 holes and was looking like a top contender from the get-go. Playing it safe, Thomas also nearly had an error-free round with his only mistake coming at the 14th hole, where he scored a bogey on the par 3.
The next 36 holes saw the Floridian make more mistakes as he added two bogeys each day. After dropping out of the top 10 for a short while on Friday, Thomas climbed back to the top of the leaderboard with a repeat of the first round. The only difference was that he had one more birdie and bogey that cancelled each other out. Overall, the 32-year-old has been better off the tee than he was at Harbour Town Golf Links a few weeks ago. He has also hit greens in regulation more frequently than he did at the 2025 RBC Heritage. The only area where his performance has dropped is putting. Justin Thomas will need to be far more accurate on the green in the last round if he wants to win the 2025 Truist Championship.
