Lydia Ko continued to be successful, where she left off in 2022. The World No. 1 and Pajaree Anannarukarn are tied for the lead after the first round of the Aramco Saudi Women International. She shot an 8-under 64. On February 17, she attended a press conference in King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia. After spreading her magic at the Royal Greens Golf & Country Club, Ko explained what made her year 2022 a significant one.

Lydia Ko expressed her gratitude for her perfect life partner

The reporter asked Ko if she could believe her success. Last year was great for the number one golfer as she won the CME and got hitched to the love of her life. A reporter asked, “Do you have to pinch yourself sometimes how well it’s going right now?” Ko immediately replied that it was near her wedding that she could not contemplate her life and felt overwhelmed. She talked about the time she had to pinch herself.

Ko said, “I think for me, especially at the end of last year as I was getting closer to the D-Day of getting married.” She was pleased about her marriage, as she found the perfect partner. “I was like, man, I literally have found my best friend. I’m going to get married to the person I love the most, and everything else was going to be a bonus,” said the New Zealand professional golfer.

Having a perfect life partner made her feel confident about herself and her career. She did not care if she shot 85, 75, 65, or 55. All she cared about at the moment was her love, Jun Chung. No matter if she loses or wins the golf match, her partner will be there with her to support her. Ko explained how having Chung by her side helped her. She said, “that was such a like easier mindset to go out there and play and just focus on my game and just have fun and not let golf dictate who I am and how I perceive myself.”

When did Ko get married?

Five days after Christmas, Lydia Ko wed Jun Chung in Seoul’s enormous Myeongdong Cathedral. After maintaining a largely secretive relationship, the 25-year-old made her engagement to Chung public in August.

Her marriage was the end of the spectacular year of 2022. Last year, she had her first multi-win season since 2016. Ko won thrice on the LPGA Tour. She received the largest winner’s check in women’s golf history—$2 million—for her most recent achievement, the CME.
